Edinburgh

EdinburghThe cultural capital city of Scotland is one for all to enjoy. Edinburgh has all the events, historical landmarks and cultural heritage to keep the most active holiday maker happy. The choice of accommodation is typical of a big city but has a range from luxury to simple Visitors to the city are rightly impressed with the castle.

Sounding its one o’clock gun on a daily basis, the resounding blast of the cannon has become something locals can set their watches to. The castle has some great tours and these can be seen on the website scottish-highlands-selfcatering.co.uk. There are also walking tours of the old sections of the city.

These are generally an hour and a half long and presented by experts in the local scene, but who also have some element of drama in the presentation. The ghost tour is very popular and this takes its groups amongst the really old parts of the city. Naturally the city has great entertainment, with a full range of restaurants serving all types of cuisine.

For the theatre goers, whilst there are some very good dramas played out on a weekly basis, the real event is the Edinburgh Festival. The international festival lasts for three weeks, and attracts the best in theatre, music, opera and dance.

Tickets and prices for the festival can be viewed at scottish-highlands-selfcatering.co.uk. Running alongside the main festival schedule there is the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This brings the lesser known comedians and actors who perform some of the more obscure dramas and play to a different type of audience.
