Football

Football in ScotlandSport is followed with great passion in Scotland with a good deal of participation sport in fishing, skiing and hiking. The national rugby team is always well supported and there is a national cricket team. However the most enthusiastic support is for the football teams of the country and information on all the teams is at scottish-highlands-selfcatering.co.uk.

The normal reaction to a mention of Scottish football is to think of Glasgow rangers and Glasgow Celtic. It is true that these two sides dominate the Scottish Premier League, but nearby Hearts and Dundee also have good support.

Rangers and Celtic have shared the honours for as long as anyone can remember, and there have been calls for the two teams to be included in the English Premier league. That is still up for debate, so the two carry on winning all there is to win on the domestic football scene.

In the Scottish leagues the likes of Hamilton Academicals, Inverness Caledonians and Hearts of Midlothian provide football commentators with some challenging times. For the avid fan there are tours of the Glasgow grounds and information on Scottish fixtures is available at scottish-highlands-selfcatering.co.uk.

Although Rangers and Celtic have always dominated the national scene they have never made an impact on European competition. It may be that the better players move south to play in the more lucrative English league, or it could be that some of the best managers have also left their homeland to coach in England. Typical examples are Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes.
